Dr Chiara Cipollari and Carlene McAvoy appointed to RSE's Young Academy of Scotland

GCU's Dr Chiara Cipollari and Carlene McAvoy have been appointed to the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Young Academy of Scotland.

They are among 48 new members, representing some of the nation’s most innovative young professionals from research, academia, business, the public sector, charity sector, and the arts.

Chiara, Research Impact Advisor, and PhD student Carlene will join the academy’s existing members in realising its vision of achieving transformative societal change through citizenship, innovation, collaboration, evidence, and leadership.

Chiara said: "I am delighted and honoured to join this cohort of the Young Academy of Scotland at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and I look forward to engaging with its inspiring, interdisciplinary community and contributing to its important work.

Carlene said: “I am absolutely delighted to join the new cohort of the Young Academy of Scotland. I am very much looking forward to working alongside fellow members to collaborate, share ideas and focus on the challenges facing Scotland. I hope to bring my experience from the third sector and my work in policy, alongside my research experience from Glasgow Caledonian University. I am excited to contribute and to play a part in shaping positive change for Scotland.”

The Young Academy of Scotland brings together young professionals from all sectors to work together on projects that benefit Scotland and the world. It aims to drive positive societal change through citizenship, innovation, collaboration, evidence and leadership.

Caroline Müellenbroich, co-chair of YAS, said: “I am delighted to welcome this incredible group of new members to The Young Academy of Scotland. Each of these individuals brings unique talents and expertise to YAS, and I look forward to seeing them combine their knowledge to create projects which address the many challenges facing Scotland and the world."

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the RSE said: “It is wonderful to see such a talented group of young professionals join the Young Academy of Scotland. By bringing together such a diverse, multidisciplinary group of leaders, YAS has great potential to address the many issues facing Scotland today. I look forward to seeing the fresh perspectives they bring, both to the work of the Young Academy, and to the Royal Society of Edinburgh.”
