GCNYC receives Candidate for Accreditation Status from MSCHE

On June 21, 2018, the Commissioners of the Middle States Commission for Higher Education voted to accept the Accreditation Readiness Report and to grant Candidate for Accreditation status to Glasgow Caledonian New York College.

GCNYC received its Charter and Degree Granting Authority from the New York State Board of Regents on June 13, 2017. The College admitted its first cohort in September 2017—the first graduation will be in December 2018.

Glasgow Caledonian University Principal, Professor Pamela Gillies, said it was a great honour for the College to receive its candidacy status in the first year.

"On behalf of the Glasgow Caledonian New York College community and Board of Trustees, I am pleased at our membership in, and candidacy status with, the Middle States Commission for Higher Education. This is a great honour for GCU at large, and a marker of great success for GCNYC. As a learning organization, we always seek to learn from our peers and share what we know — membership in Middle States supports us in our endeavors."

GCNYC Provost, Robert Clougherty, said: "This is a great milestone for us, but really indicates a continuation of our efforts to generate an ongoing learning experience for our students. We are honored by our membership with the Commission. As a learning organization, we seek every opportunity to improve and grow, and now we have MSCHE as a guiding partner in that process."

"We are truly delighted to have been granted this status. It is a testament to the constructive collaboration that GCNYC has with the worlds of industry, non-profits, and finance, and how they can interact in new ways with higher education," said GCNYC VP Cara Smyth. "We look forward to continuing our work on this journey and will approach the next steps with the same energy as we have done thus far."

Director of Assessment, Viktoria Popova, added: "We are very proud of our Candidate for Accreditation status as a validation of the work we have completed; but most importantly, we see it as an immense responsibility of the far-reaching journey ahead."

On behalf of the student body, Governance Leader, Elizabeth Pulos commented: "As the active student governance leader here at GCNYC, I am beyond thrilled for the entire community and staff for this achievement. Of course, as a student, I am eager to experience the positive effect that this new status will have for all members of the student body throughout their journeys here."
