Ritch, E.L. EU Project on second-hand fashion markets.
This project is a collaboration between six European Universities: Universidade Lusíada (Portugal); Glasgow Caledonian University (Scotland); AMD Akademie Mode & Design, Fresenius University (Germany); École supérieure des arts et techniques de la mode (France); ISEM Fashion Business School, Universidad de Navarra (Spain); University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy). The research investigates the fashion resale habits of European consumers, which is relevant to the UNSDG 14 Responsible Production and Consumption. This research can help advance the sustainable fashion agenda by determining the motivations of consumers who participate in the fashion resale economy to determine how to encourage wider fashion practice to become more circular. A survey has been disseminated in the six European countries, and this will provide an insight into each countries resell habits with the opportunity to compare behaviours. The research will be of interest to academia, the fashion industry, fashion entrepreneurs and EU policy makers.
Davies, N. Leisure Travel Network (2022-onwards), funded by UCLAN
The network has been developed to share knowledge and good practice between destinations and with organisations involved with transport policy or provision and support the development and promotion of sustainable leisure travel across the UK.
The work of the network is based on the principle of giving priority to alternatives to the private car and encouraging visitors to make more sustainable travel choices, both to and within destinations, and improving the sustainability of destinations and enhance visitor experience. Research seeks to identify gaps in current knowledge in leisure travel behaviour and practice to develop an agenda to support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
Davies, N. West Midlands Walking Trail Feasibility Study (2022-23), funded by West Midlands Combined Authority
As part of a team of consultants, Nick Davies provided a business case and implementation plan on how to deliver the West Midlands Walking Trail, using previous examples of newly developed large scale walking trails, such as the GM Ringway. The purpose of the business case was to allow the WMCA to secure significant funding to develop the trail and the information and research on what is required to deliver the trail. This included a detailed policy review for active travel, a literature review of trail benefits, community consultation focus groups and development of a route methodology.
