Google Scholar
Google Scholar provides a simple search across a wide range of scholarly content from journal publishers, university repositories, and other websites including peer-reviewed journal articles, books, abstracts, theses, dissertations, technical reports and more. Some full text content on Google Scholar is openly available but sometimes you may be prompted to log in or pay to access full text material.
With a couple of small adjustments to the settings, you can make Google Scholar work more effectively for you. You can set up Google Scholar to provide direct links to full text resources we subscribe to and also to export your citations to reference management software like RefWorks or Endnote.
To add full text links to our resources in Google Scholar:
- Click the menu icon (
) in the top-left corner of the Google Scholar screen and select Settings - Select Library Links
- Search for Glasgow Caledonian University
- From the list of results check the box next to Glasgow Caledonian University - Full Text @ GCU Library
- Click Save.
Now when you search Google Scholar you will see the link Full Text @ GCU Library to the right of each result. This link indicates that we have full text access to the resource and when you click on it you either will be prompted to log in with your Domain details or, if you have already logged in, be linked directly to the full text.
To export citations from Google Scholar to RefWorks or another reference management tool:
- Click the menu icon ( ) in the top-left corner of the Google Scholar screen and select Settings
- Under Bibliography Manager, click Show links to import citations into and choose RefWorks (or another supported reference management tool) from the drop-down list
- Click Save.
When you are looking at your set of results you will now see a link to Import into RefWorks. Clicking this will import the citation data into your RefWorks account.
