ORCID

An Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a free, unique, persistent identifier (PID) for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. Most personal names are not unique and can change over time (for example with marriage), have cultural differences in name order, contain inconsistent use of first-name abbreviations or employ different writing systems. ORCID provides a persistent identifier which negates the issues outlined above and allows researchers to be connected to their outputs and affiliations across disciplines, borders and time.

The ORCID organisation provides an open and independent registry and is the de facto standard for contributor identification in research and academic publishing. GCU encourages all academic staff to register for an ORCID, link this to their research profile in Pure, and authorise the export of research data from Pure to ORCID.
