Take part of the Glasgow's Climate Week

Glasgow’s Climate Week will help to promote many examples of climate-positive work that are already happening across the city and support connections between people and organisations to further develop ideas. This year Glasgow’s Climate Week will be from Monday, 12 May – Friday, 16 May 2025. You can find more information about Climate Week and other city-wide events by visiting the Sustainable Glasgow website.
The University is celebrating Glasgow’s Climate Week by hosting on-campus sustainability events for our students and staff to attend:
Campus BioBlitz
Monday, 12 May - Friday, 16 May
Campus BioBlitz is a citizen science project in the University’s Biodiversity Plan (published in May 2023) with the aim of helping us to identify and record on-campus species diversity. To participate in the BioBlitz, you need to download the iNaturalist app and join the University’s Biodiversity Project on the app.
You can go on-campus on any of the dates between 12 – 16 May (and as often as you like) and record as many (naturally occurring - not decorative) species you can find.
We'll be hosting an introduction session to BioBlitz to provide you with some further context of our Biodiversity Plan, the basics of BioBlitz and how to use the iNaturalist app for species identification. The introduction sessions to BioBlitz take place on Wednesday, 14 May from 2-3pm.
To sign up for the introduction session, please fill out the BioBlitz form.
Every Tree Tells A Story
Thursday, 15 May: 12 – 1pm
The University's Sustainability Team together with the Every Tree Tells a Story project invites you to join us for a walk around the University to learn about the history, biodiversity and green spaces of Glasgow campus through the stories that trees can tell us. The walk will be followed by a discussion and an opportunity to record your own tree story.
To sign up, please fill out the ETTAS form.
Sign the #myclimatepledge
Staff commuting is a significant component of Glasgow Caledonian University's carbon footprint and we are committed to carbon neutrality by 2040 in the University's Strategy 2030. To celebrate Climate Week, all staff are encouraged to sign our Climate Pledge and agree not to fly on business to destinations they can reach within six hours by train. You can watch this video to hear from other staff members who have already signed the pledge.
Dr Bike mobile mechanic
Thursday, 15 May: 11am – 1pm
Dr Bike will be back on campus (main concourse) to carry out minor repairs and check bicycles to make sure all of our cyclists are safe on the road. Bike checks will be carried out on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you have any questions about the events, please e-mail sustainability@gcu.ac.uk
