Glasgow Goes Green festival is back again this year with a week full of sustainability events at our Glasgow campus from Monday, 2 – Friday, 6 March. The focus of the festival is to explore how taking action locally can have a widespread impact. The theme for this year is ‘Think Global, Act Glasgow’.

The festival is held jointly by Higher Education institutions across Glasgow. For further details on other events organised by other institutions, you can visit the Glasgow Goes Green social media page.

Every Tree Tells A Story

Wednesday, 4 March: 12noon - 2pm

Come along for the Every Tree Tells A Story (ETTAS) walk and talk around campus to learn about the history of the Glasgow campus through the stories that trees can tell us. The walk will be followed by a discussion and an opportunity to fill out a postcard with your own tree story. The discussion session will take place from 1-2pm at the Sir Alex Ferguson Library’s Relax & Renew space. You don’t have to sign up for the discussion session, just come along and join us on the day!

Join the ETTAS walk & talk

Sustainability Chat

Wednesday, 4 March: 2 – 3pm

Come along to the Sir Alex Ferguson Library’s Relax & Renew space to have a chat with the University’s Sustainability Team about potential sustainability projects or other ideas that could link to the University’s sustainability initiatives.

Carbon Literacy Training (staff only)

Wednesday, 4 March: 12noon – 2pm (first session - online)

The Sustainability team at GCU in partnership with GSBS are offering Carbon Literacy Training (CLT) (fully funded) for the University staff who would like to increase their awareness and understanding of carbon emissions, climate change, and sustainable practices. It aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to take action against climate change in their personal and professional lives. Dr Bike mobile mechanic

Thursday, 5 March: 11am – 1pm

Dr Bike will be back on campus (main concourse) to carry out minor repairs and check bicycles to make sure all of our cyclists are safe on the road. Bike checks will be carried out on a first-come, first-served basis. For up-to-date information, you can sign-up to our Cycling Forum.

Travel Advisors

Tuesday, 3 March and Thursday, 5 March: 11am – 1pm

Visit the National Student Money Week stalls at the George Moore Campus Life desk area and talk to our sustainable travel advisors to find ways to save money on your travel to campus while contributing to sustainability.

Hire a Brompton Bike

Get around Glasgow in a sustainable way by hiring a foldable Brompton Bike from our on-campus lockers. Read more on how to access the Brompton bike and sign-up for a trial voucher.

Buy Fairtrade products

Did you know that Glasgow Caledonian University is a Fairtrade University? Staff and students can take part of the Glasgow Goes Green festival and support fair trade by buying Fairtrade products from the University's catering outlets including Modern Standard coffee, Clippers tea, Cadbury's chocolate, Fairtrade bananas or Juice Burst drinks.
