A Glasgow Caledonian University alumnus has called for engineering to be better promoted as a career path for secondary-school pupils after being named one of the University’s Alumni of the Year.

Multi-award-winning optometrist and Director of three Specsavers businesses in Edinburgh, Michael O’Kane, was presented with an Alumni of the Year Award by Glasgow Caledonian University.

Sir Alex Ferguson CBE has joined forces with Glasgow Caledonian University alumnus and honorary graduate Dr Murray Rowden to back the University's most ambitious campaign to date − together, they've pledged £500,000 to fund 150 new scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The ceremonies will recognise the achievements of students across the University community and honour individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.
