Book a study space

You do not need to book a space in order to study in the library. For those that wish, we have a variety of different bookable spaces available.

Book a private study room

We have bookable study rooms on Level 0 of the library. 

The rooms are available to GCU staff and students on a first-come, first-served basis, and can be booked up to one week in advance. 

Rooms are available from 10am - 10pm Monday - Friday, and from 11am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday.

Book a study room

  • Study room capacity is currently 2 people per room
  • Please let us know if you are running late, bookings will be cancelled after 15 minutes
  • A GCU student or staff card must be presented when collecting the access card from the Library Desk, and will be retained until the study room access card is returned
  • Please ensure the access card is returned before the end of your booking time
  • The room access card will only be issued to the person who made the booking
  • Lost access cards will incur a charge of £10 Rooms are not to be used to store items while attending lectures
Book a silent study space

You can book a study space with a PC on Level 3 of the library. This area is for silent individual study.

Please note: 

You do not need to book to study in the building. These are aimed at those travelling from afar who wish to guarantee themselves a study space in the building. 

If you decide to leave before the end of your booking, we ask that you 'check out' so space can be made available to other users. 

Bookings will be automatically cancelled in the event of non-attendance 30 minutes after the booking start time. 

Unused bookings will be removed from the booking system and be made available for other students. If your booking is cancelled via the automatic cancellation process, you will be able to book another slot should you wish to.

How do I use the booking system?
  • Click on one of the links above
  • Above the booking calendar select the required date for your booking
  • In the booking calendar available spaces will display as green. Click on the space(s) you would like to book
  • Once you have made your selections scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Submit Times
  • A summary of your bookings will display. Check these are correct and click Change next to any booking you need to edit
  • Enter your first name, last name, and your email address. You must use your student or staff email address (ending, or
  • Click Submit my Booking to confirm your reservations. You will receive email confirmation of your booking. Please retain this as you will need to check in when you visit the library


What will happen when I arrive for my booking?
  • If you have booked for Level 3, you can go straight up to your booked space and sign in via the QR code at the PC
  • If you have booked a private study room, you will need to sign in at the Library Desk on Level 0
  • It is mandatory for all staff and students to wear a face covering whilst in the library unless they have a medical reason not to
  • When you arrive at your study space you should wipe down the desk and any IT equipment with antibacterial wipes. A supply of wipes will be available on each floor of the building


How do I cancel a booking?

If for any reason you are unable to make use of your booked study space, please cancel your reservation so that other users can make use of the space.  

To cancel a booking:

  • Click on the cancellation link in your confirmation email
  • A list of all your bookings will be displayed. Use the Cancel Booking buttons to cancel one or more of your reservations. Use the Cancel All Bookings button to cancel all your reservations

If you cannot locate your confirmation email, please contact the library to request cancellation of your reservation. 

If you repeatedly fail to attend your booking without cancelling you may be blocked from making further bookings.
