Taking applications to start 15 September 2022

In line with global decarbonisation targets, energy transformation is a critical priority for utilities, national grid, manufacturing, infrastructure and transportation. Transformation will inevitably combine leveraging greater efficiencies and greener performance from existing infrastructure, phasing out ageing technology and integrating new, greener innovations.

Monitoring, measurement and control of systems, data acquisition, interpretation and action will be a greater feature of all health systems engineering to facilitate progress in decarbonisation and more effective systems performance. Digitalisation, IoT and Industry 4.0 technologies already shaping the future of our energy, process and manufacturing industries.

If organisations can use condition monitoring, machine learning and analytics smartly, they can reduce maintenance costs and increase the efficiency, safety and reliability of most processes. When companies use the data they collect sensibly, they are able to optimise energy usage and contribute even more to reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources and of course the associated costs.

This fully funded, 15-credit module aims to develop and enhance the ability to evaluate, in a given situation, the most appropriate strategy for acquiring and transmitting data and to understand the merits of this strategy with respect to other approaches.
