University secures National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) certification for undergraduate degree
Glasgow Caledonian University is set to receive a major boost to its cyber security credentials after its BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and Networks programme achieved certification from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
The recognition marks the first time the University has secured NCSC certification at undergraduate level, building on previous success with its postgraduate cyber security programmes.
NCSC-certified degrees are widely regarded as a benchmark of quality in an increasingly competitive higher education landscape. With a growing number of UK universities offering cyber-related courses, the certification helps distinguish programmes that meet rigorous national standards and align closely with industry needs.
Programme Leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh emphasised the importance of the recognition in preparing students for real-world challenges. He said: “The full certification from the NCSC for our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and Networks programme at Glasgow Caledonian University reflects the strength of our programme in meeting rigorous national standards and the dedication of our staff and students. This recognition highlights our strong focus on developing practical, industry-relevant skills and ensures that our graduates are well prepared with the knowledge, skills, and professional mindset needed to succeed in tackling modern cyber security challenges.”
The accreditation also brings wider benefits. Universities are better positioned to attract high-calibre students from around the world, while employers can recruit with greater confidence in graduates’ technical capabilities. For prospective students, it provides reassurance that the qualification offers strong professional value and relevance.
Head of Department Anand Philip welcomed the achievement, praising the collective effort behind the application. He said: “We are delighted to receive certification for our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and Networks programme, building on the recognition already achieved for our postgraduate provisions.
“Securing certification at undergraduate level represents a significant undertaking. The process involves extensive documentation and scrutiny, particularly for a four-year degree programme, and requires institutions to demonstrate both academic rigour and practical, industry-focused learning outcomes.
“This reflects the strength of our offering, and I would like to sincerely thank all staff for their dedication and contribution in making this possible.”
