Students explore cyber security careers at GCU Cyber Camp

School pupils from across Scotland visited Glasgow Caledonian University this week to take part in the University's Cyber Camp, a fully funded residential programme designed to introduce young people to the fast-growing world of cyber security.

Held from 16 to 18 June on GCU's Glasgow campus, the three-day camp brought together S5 and S6 pupils for a series of practical workshops, team challenges and real-world cyber security scenarios.

Participants worked together to investigate digital incidents, explore network systems and practise ethical hacking techniques in a safe and secure environment, developing valuable technical and problem-solving skills along the way.

The programme also included workshops in digital forensics, programming and communication skills, providing pupils with an insight into the breadth of careers available within the cyber security sector.

Throughout the camp, students experienced university life first-hand while working alongside academics and industry professionals, gaining a better understanding of the opportunities available within one of the UK's fastest-growing industries.

The residential programme was fully funded by industry sponsors, with participants staying on campus and taking part in a range of evening social activities alongside the academic programme.

The Cyber Camp forms part of Glasgow Caledonian University's commitment to widening access to education and helping young people develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue careers in technology and cyber security.

Dr Salma Mohamed, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science at Glasgow Caledonian University and camp lead, said: “The camp provided a unique opportunity for pupils to build practical cyber security skills, meet like-minded peers and gain an insight into future study and career pathways in the sector.”
