Professor McMillan nominated for the Advance HE National Teaching Fellowship Award

Professor Lesley McMillan has been selected as GCU's candidate for the Advance HE National Teaching Fellowship Award.

Professor McMillan, who teaches Criminology and Sociology, has spent more than 10 years leading institutional responses to sexual violence.

Her research led to the co-creation of the award-winning Erase the Grey campaign, which has been adopted by Police Scotland and other higher and further education institutions across the UK.

#erasethegrey, which challenges stereotypes and myths around gender-based violence, has reached around 200,000 staff and students.

The campaign won the Public Sector - Best Equality & Inclusion Cause Campaign category at the PR industry's Purpose Awards last year.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education.

Susan Docherty, Student President, GCU Students’ Association, said: “The Erase the Grey campaign has had a huge impact on the whole GCU community, students, staff, and visitors to our campus and website. 

"This campaign raised awareness and acted as a call to action, and the impact has had a ripple effect that will continue for many years to come."

The shortlist of successful nominees will be announced in August.
