She said: “Receiving this honour is among the most meaningful and it represents a renewal of my relationship with this wonderful city and on ongoing affection that makes me come back and keep coming back.

“You got through COVID, you did it, you got to the end. I truly believe you will always be respected by your cohorts for that. Amazing things are going to happen to you all.”

Chief Operating Officer of ACS Clothing Anthony Burns received a Doctor of Business Administration for his outstanding contribution to sustainable fashion.

He said: “I am humbled to accept this degree on behalf of all the team at ACS who have worked tirelessly. I have been afforded the opportunity through my degree at Glasgow Caledonian University to build a career in an industry where I can make a difference and influence positive change and so can all of you, individually and collectively through sustainable choices.

“I wish you all great luck and encourage you to choose sustainably to make the world a better place for us all.”

Mercy Ships’ Executive Consultant Jim Paterson received a Doctor of Science for his contribution to marine engineering and for transforming the lives of marginalised people through his work with the world’s largest civilian hospital ship.

He said: “If I look back to when I graduated, I could never have predicted my life would have taken the direction it did.

“Very few of us are called or equipped to achieve great things without help. By contributing your skills, together we can do great things.”

Ian Young OBE was recognised with a Doctor of Engineering for his outstanding services to engineering and civic commitment.

He said: “There has never been a greater need in this country for people who work with a vision and a passion to build business and generate employment.

“Will some of you who are gathered today graduating be the next great generation of business? Of that, I have no doubt. I wish you all success in life.”
