Honorary Degrees awarded to outstanding achievers at Glasgow Caledonian University

All winter hon grads

A double Paralympics champion will be granted an honorary degree at Glasgow Caledonian University's winter graduation ceremonies, scheduled for November 28 and 29 at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.

Sprinter and tandem track cyclist Elizabeth Clegg MBE, also known as Libby, is a two-time Paralympics champion and a world-record holder. She will receive a Doctor of the University in recognition of her outstanding achievements. Despite her deteriorating eye condition, Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy disease, which has left her registered blind, Libby has excelled in her field. She was awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Year Honours list for her contributions to athletics and charity.

Glasgow Caledonian University alumnus Stephen Clark, Global Senior Director of Product Merchandising at Jordan Brand/Nike Inc, will be awarded a Doctor of Business Administration. Stephen has made significant contributions to the JordanBrand's Apparel & Accessories projects/collaborations across sport and streetwear, partnering with renowned designers such as Kim Jones/Dior, Virgil Abloh/Off White, and Travis Scott.

Jim Rowan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Cars, will receive a Doctor of Engineering. He is committed to sustainability in the automotive industry, with Volvo aiming to design and build only electric cars by 2030.

Claire Kilpatrick, Director of KSHealthcare Consulting Ltd, will be honoured with a Doctor of Science. She has played a pivotal role in infection prevention and control and has shaped health policies globally. Her work has been recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO), WaterAid, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has also worked with Glasgow Caledonian’s Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research group.

Group Chief Executive Officer of global construction consultancy Currie and Brown, Alan Manuel, will receive a Doctor of Engineering for his distinguished 40-year career in the industry. Alan is deeply committed to nurturing the construction industry's new generation and actively mentors early career graduates. He is dedicated to excellence in the industry, participating in various leadership groups and institutions.

These exceptional individuals, who have embodied the University's Common Good mission in their field, will join more than 2,000 graduates, who will also hear messages from the University's leadership team, including the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Stephen Decent.
