Glasgow Caledonian throws its weight behind Scotland’s Health Awards

GCU backs Scotland's Health Awards

Glasgow Caledonian University is once again showing its support for our NHS heroes by backing Scotland’s Health Awards 2025.

As the largest and most successful provider of Allied Health Profession education and research in Scotland the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) is aptly sponsoring the Allied Health Professional Award.

Nominations for the Awards, to be held in Edinburgh in November, were officially launched this week by Health Secretary Neil Gray and Caroline Lamb, NHS Scotland Chief Executive and Director-General Health and Social Care.

The Awards, hosted by the Scotsman, in partnership with Scottish Government and NHS Scotland, celebrate the extraordinary achievements of individuals and teams who go above and beyond to deliver compassionate, high-quality health and social care to the people of Scotland.

This year’s categories include care for mental health, as well as awards for the doctor, nurse, support worker, top team, volunteers, young achiever, Allied Health Professional, midwife and leader of the year.

SHLS Dean Professor Anita Simmers said: "As Scotland's leading provider of healthcare education, we play a pivotal role in developing the workforce for the future.

“Allied Health Professionals are vital to the NHS’s future - delivering preventative care and rehabilitation in communities, enhancing patient flow and specialist support in acute settings, and providing holistic, life-course care from birth to end of life.

“Their work reduces hospital reliance, empowers self-management, and improves outcomes across every stage of a patient’s journey.

“At Glasgow Caledonian, we are immensely proud of our Allied Health Profession students and the remarkable role they play in supporting the nation’s health. That’s why we are honoured to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of these professions by sponsoring the Allied Health Professional Award.”
