Dr Annie Lennox and Professor Cam Donaldson elected RSE Fellows
GCU's Chancellor Dr Annie Lennox OBE and Professor Cam Donaldson have been appointed Fellows of The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Dr Lennox, who receives an honorary fellowship, and Professor Donaldson are among 80 leading names from the arts, business, public service and civil society in the 2022 cohort.
This year's list also includes Professor Marc Turner, Director at the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, and Theresa Shearer, CEO of the ENABLE Group.
Dr Lennox OBE said: "I’m truly humbled and honoured to have been nominated as a Fellow of the RSE.
"Apart from a lifetime of music-making, my ardent passion lies with the most crucial issues facing all of humanity at this precarious point in time, namely the sustainability of our precious planet and the actual implementation of human rights and justice, most especially regarding the lives of women and girls in all four corners of the globe.
"My hope has always been to create a positive influence and contribution towards lasting transformative change."
Professor Donaldson, Yunus Chair and Distinguished Professor of Health Economics at GCU, is a world-renowned health economist, who has been a professor at Aberdeen University, the Svare Chair in Health Economics at the University of Calgary and the Health Foundation Chair at Newcastle University.
He said: "It is a great honour to be recognised in this way by Scotland’s National Academy. I see the award as a testament to a lifetime of support from family and the generosity of national and international research colleagues over the years.
"I am especially proud to receive this award whilst at Glasgow Caledonian University and in our Yunus Centre. Without the support and collegiality I have experienced here these past 12 years, I do not think this would have been possible."
Professor Pamela Gillies FRSE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of GCU, said: "I would like to warmly congratulate Dr Lennox and Professor Donaldson on their appointments and for delivering true social impact to the communities we serve.
"I am delighted that our Chancellor's outstanding commitment to human rights and social justice has been recognised by the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
"Professor Cam Donaldson's internationally-renowned research embodies our University’s mission for the Common Good and continues to have a global impact."
Professor Sir John Ball, President of the RSE, added: “Every single individual elected this year has shown exceptional levels of expertise and insight in their chosen field, and their input helps RSE effect real and lasting change in Scotland’s society."
