GCU engineers have made it a CIOB hat-trick

GCU engineering students have achieved a hat-trick for the University after heading to Hong Kong for the final of the CIOB Global Student Challenge. 

GCU has won the past three finals of the competition, run by the Chartered Institute of Building, which develops leadership skills by challenging students to run their own construction company in a simulated environment using software.

The University’s team ‘Tartan Construction’ completed a number of elimination rounds. The team consists of Michael Bill, Paul McAllister, Christopher Rice and Philip Tully from the BEng in Building Services Engineering programme.

GCU was one of three UK universities to make the final, the others being the University of Cambridge and Loughborough University. The remaining finalists were the University of Melbourne, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Chongqing University.

Team tutor Mark Phillipson, who travelled to Hong Kong for the finals with the students, said: “I am absolutely delighted that our students continue to flourish and prove themselves against the best students globally.”
