Learning Enhancement Subcommittee
The Learning Enhancement Subcommittee (LESC) has devolved responsibility from the Education Committee (EC) for ensuring the effective implementation and monitoring of the University’s quality assurance and enhancement agenda.
Terms of reference
- To provide a forum for key stakeholders to consider, advise and make recommendations to the Education Committee relating to the enhancement of learning, teaching and the academic student experience at GCU.
- Develop and promote the implementation of Strategy (Education) 2030 and commission special projects and task-finish groups, as required.
- Develop and promote best practice and innovation in learning, teaching, assessment and student engagement, taking account of the latest developments in research and evaluation, both internal and external.
- Oversee and monitor Schools annual monitoring reports and accompanying analyses by Quality, Assurance and Enhancement on the effectiveness of procedures in relation to the quality enhancement and academic standards of taught programmes and report progress to the Education Committee.
- Consider, report on progress and make recommendations to the Education Committee in relation to actions to enhance widening participation, inclusion and student performance (retention, progression and attainment).
- Consider the outcomes of Internal Subject Reviews, receive the outcomes of Programme Approval and Review events including PSRB accreditation reports and ensure dissemination of effective practice and innovation in programme design and delivery, and in teaching, feedback and assessment.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures for the approval, review, monitoring and enhancement of the University’s taught provision both on and off campus and to recommend to the Education Committee any potential changes and enhancement to policy including developmental areas.
- Consider the outcomes of student experience surveys and the resulting responses made by the University, to ensure that actions contribute to the enhancement of learning, teaching and the student experience and strengthen the student voice, making recommendations to the Education Committee and University Executive Group as appropriate.
- Oversee and monitor the effective management of the University’s engagement with Scotland’s
Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP). - Consider developments and updates in relation to professional recognition of staff achieving Fellowship through GCU’s Accelerate CPD Framework in teaching and supporting student learning.
