Supporting your application
When you apply to study a postgraduate course at GCU, you must send us some additional documents for a successful application. See details below.
Your personal statement is very important as it tells us why you wish to study your chosen course. Here are some tips for writing a strong statement of purpose:
- You must use your own written work and not text copied from the GCU website or text generated with AI
- Keep it concise and well-structured (around one A4 page is enough)
- Explain why you want to study your chosen course at GCU
- Include any other factors that influenced your choice, such as the local area, the reputation of the course or staff involved, placement opportunities, etc.
- Let us know your background in your chosen subject and why studying it at GCU will be a suitable next step. This can include previous studies, employment or work experience
- Tell us about your plans after graduation and how this course will help you achieve your goals
- If you are an international student, outline why you wish to study in the UK.
Letters of reference provide us with additional evidence of your ability to complete your course. You can either:
- Upload or attach your letters of reference to your application
- Ask your referees to submit this information directly at admissions@gcu.ac.uk.
Please send in your references at the time of application and not prior to submitting.
Include any academic and/or professional certificates you have achieved in your previous academic study. You may also include any skills gained from Continuing Professional Development (CPD) while employed.
Academic transcripts provide the University with full details of the modules you studied at undergraduate level.
Please provide a scanned copy of your passport identification pages.
