He supervises undergraduate dissertations, Master’s projects and PhD theses as well as help colleagues develop articles for publication.
He was Professor of Marketing at Strathclyde University (2004-2012), Professor of Marketing at Birmingham University (1999-2004), Professor of Marketing at the University of Calgary, Canada (1990-1999) and before that at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology) where he taught Marketing and International Business. He was nominated by the Chartered Institute of Marketing as one of the Top 50 Gurus in Marketing in 2004. He has been a past winner of Case Study of the Year Award from the European Case Clearing House . He has acted as a consultant for businesses and for government both local and national. He was a past Chair of the Professional Qualifications and Examinations Board of the Institute of Export. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and of the Chartered Management Institute
Publications focus on International Marketing and Business to Business Marketing, with 18 books and many journal articles and currently Deputy Editor of two journals: Journal of Customer Behaviour and International Journal of Export Marketing.
