Project title: Low energy consumption illumination sources based on beam shaping optics

The main aim of this PhD project is to investigate, design, integrate and test an optimised low energy consumption LED-based illumination system based on novel secondary beam-shaping optics for street lighting installations on posts above 6 meters. The specific objectives are:

1) To investigate, design and implement a novel non-imaging a secondary optical element/array capable of providing a footprint and uniformity of illuminance that complies with international standards at distances above 6 meters.
2) To carry out a performance analysis of such a system through the simulations and experimental work.
3) To investigate and assess the compliance of the footprint of the system with BS EN 13201-5 standards.
