Dr Omotayo (Tayo) Owoeye

Tayo Owoeye (DPhil) is a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Management in the Glasgow School for Business and Society (GSBS). He holds a BSc and MSc in Sociology and Anthropology, an MBA in Human Resource Management and Human Capacity Development, and is a UK-certified Professional Life and Career Coach.

He earned his PhD from the University of Pretoria, focusing on knowledge construction, worldview communication, and symbolism among craftsmen and women. His multidisciplinary work explores socio-cultural issues, human capacity development, sustainability, leadership, entrepreneurship, and business.

Since joining GCU in 2023, Tayo has played key roles in work-based learning and research. He is a Level Programme Lead and Module Lead – teaching the Personal and Professional Development and Research Methodology/Project modules in the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators (CIRO) Programme and contributes to the research on Shaping GCU’s Future Graduate Apprenticeship Design study. He also supervises doctoral candidates in Business Administration.

Prior to his appointment at GCU in 2023, he was an Associate Professor at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, where he held leadership roles, including Deputy HoD. He taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Industrial Sociology/Anthropology, HRM, and Societal Transformation.

He is a Fellow of the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies, serving as Program Director, and has led research on graduate employability in five African countries through grants from the Mastercard Foundation. He has also led collaborative research from the Nagel Institute Grant on Engaging African Realities for three years, sponsored by the Templeton Religious Trust.

Tayo's expertise spans personal and professional development, work-based learning, transformative education, pedagogical research, research methodology, ethnography, human resource management, entrepreneurship, and dommunity development.

He is a member of the GCU’s Entrepreneurial Hub and volunteers as a radio host at Jambo Radio Scotland, presenting the Touchpoint with Tayo podcast and engaging with Glasgow’s communities.
