Professor Mike Mannion is a Vice-Principal and President of Glasgow Caledonian New York College (GCNYC).

He gained his first degree in Computer Science from Brunel University and went on to graduate with an MBA from the Open University and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Bristol. After several years working as a Software Developer, Mike took up the roles of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University from 1992 to 2000.

He joined Glasgow Caledonian University in 2000 as Head of the Department of Computing. Since then he has taken on various senior management roles: Dean of the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (2002-2007), Dean of the School of Engineering and Computing (2007-2008), Vice-Principal International (2008-2010), Vice-Principal (Learning & Teaching (2010-2012), Vice-Principal Research (2012-2016), Interim Head of Department of Computing (2018), Director of the SMART Technology Research Centre (2019-2020), Interim Provost GCNYC (2019, 2020), Dean of the School of Engineering, Computing & Built Environment (2020-2022), Interim Director of GCU London (2022), Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (2022), Interim Vice-Principal Global Engagement (2023).

Between 2016-2019 he stepped down from senior management duties to focus on his principal research and teaching interests in Computing. He is currently the Principal Investigator on an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership project with Safehinge Primera. He has successfully supervised 15 PhD students across a range of topics in software engineering, network management, artificial intelligence and serious games. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Information Practitioner.

Mike has also served as a non-executive director at Fairbridge in Scotland (2009-2011), Higher Education Academy (2011-2015), Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (2013-2022), Homeless Action Scotland (2017-2023), St Mary’s Kenmure (2023-present day).
