Michael is an Academic Lecturer in Digital Construction for the Department of Construction and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University. He teaches in the field of Digital Construction, covering all aspects of building information modelling (BIM), digital collaboration, and emerging construction technologies.
His research interests include competition-based learning (CBL), digital delivery methods, BIM education, digital transformation in construction, and industry-aligned curriculum development.
Michael has worked in the construction and digital technology industry for over 20 years, holding roles as a structural steelwork fabricator before moving to further and higher education where he has led on the development of innovative programmes and award-winning curriculum. This experience heavily informs his current teaching, where he focuses on guiding students to industry standards, integrating real-world challenges, and preparing them for professional careers through competition-based and project-driven learning. He is also a Senior Fellow (SFHEA) of the Higher Education Academy.
