Lynn Sheridan has worked in social work for several years before taking up a teaching role in 2004 at GCU. This work included child care/protection social work, management of staff in the residential sector and childcare social work in both England and Scotland.
In relation to practice issues this covers a wide variety of areas including child protection, fostering and adoption and LGBT issues within the broadest social work spectrum. Lynn has been at the forefront of the Social Work division’s development and integration of blended, e-learning and Digital Media Learning (DML) formats and the development and use of e-learning to enhance practice. Lynn was commissioned to develop an interactive training package for Glasgow Child Protection Committee. Other interests are violence against women and national and international LGBT politics. Lynn has served as chair of the Glasgow Rape Crisis Management Board, and has worked and been delegated to attend several European and World Conferences of ILGA (International Lesbian and Gay Conference).
Current research is concentrated on several projects funded by Greater Glasgow Articulation Partnership (GGAP). This work includes mapping the performance of students entering the Social Work programme via Further Education Colleges, exploring the support mechanisms required for students in relation to their transition to Higher Education through the use of online tools and the development of a digital format to enhance learning and teaching within the department.
Sheridan is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
