Dr Kate McAulay
Lecturer
Department of Construction and Built EnvironmentKate is a Lecturer in the Department of Applied Science in the Department of Construction and Surveying.
She studied both an MSci and PhD in Chemistry at The University of Glasgow. Her MSci project involved modifying carbon surfaces to invoke specific bond-forming activities, and spent her industrial placement year at Huntsman in Belgium working on the modification of polysaccharides with isocyanates for the use in adhesives.
Kate completed her PhD in 2017 under the supervision of Professor Justin Hargreaves. The PhD focused on metallic and alloy-based catalysts for ammonia synthesis and used a wide range of material characterisation techniques.
Next, she worked as a Research Associate under Professor Dave Adams in January 2018, working on self-assembled soft matter systems. Kate then joined Glasgow Caledonian University as a Lecturer in Chemistry in January 2020.
Her current research interests are in inorganic soft materials for water treatment.
