John Connolly

Glasgow School for Business and SocietyProfessor John Connolly is Interim Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Vice Dean of the Glasgow School for Business and Society at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is a Professor of Public Policy with a strong international research profile, he is also a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. With over a decade in senior academic leadership, Professor Connolly has held roles including Associate Dean for Research, Head of Research, Postgraduate Director, and Head of Department. His higher education leadership experience and expertise include research governance, strategic planning, workforce development, and leadership in learning and teaching. Professor Connolly’s academic research is interdisciplinary and spans public health, crisis management, public administration, health security and evaluation.
John is actively involved in professional networks such as the Chartered Association for Business Schools and the UK Political Studies Association, and serves as Chief Editorial Adviser for Routledge Open Research. He also advises the UK Cabinet Office’s Evaluation and Trial Panel, drawing on his expertise in policy analysis. His research has been supported by a range of funders, including leading UK Research Councils, such as the ESRC and NERC. Before entering academia, Professor Connolly worked as a policy and evaluation specialist for NHS Health Scotland.
