Joanna has worked at GCU since 2005 in a variety of widening participation outreach roles delivering activities aimed at school pupils and college students.

Since 2014 as SCEBE’s Widening Participation Manager, she has led on Widening Access and Articulation from Scotland’s colleges on behalf of SCEBE. Within this role, Joanna manages and supports the delivery of widening participation strategies, arrangements and activities with a focus on STEM disciplines to aid students from the most diverse backgrounds to successfully transition in, through and out of university.

Joanna has an educational background in physics and engineering, gaining a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in fibre lasers for environmental monitoring, from Strathclyde University in 2006.

Joanna actively became involved in STEM engagement as an undergraduate and postgraduate, worked as a Science Communicator at the Glasgow Science Centre and has been a STEM Ambassador since 2015.
