Jim is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Prior to joining GCU in 2009, he spent thirty years as a practising Surveyor, (becoming Chartered in 1984).  His principle areas of expertise are survey methodology, building pathology, building conservation, flooding and the performance of buildings when subjected to the natural environment.

His current academic research looks at student perception and the reality of an international outlook.

Jim leads a Learning Partnership with GCU, FE colleges and HM Forces whose aim is to aid the successful transition of military personnel into civilian life.  He is also a member of the Glasgow and Strathclyde University’s Military Education Committee.
