Isla is a PhD student at GCU, currently employed by NHS GG&C and seconded to GCU for three years in Clinical Academic Learning Disability Nursing. She received a BSc in Primary Care from the University of Paisley in 1996 and an MSc in Primary Care from the University of Glasgow in 2010.

Isla has professional qualifications in areas including Cancer Genetics, Assessment of Incapacity for Health Professionals, Clinical Leadership and Family Planning. She has had lecturing experience as a Lecturer/Practitioner at GCU since 2012 and from 2014-15 was a Scottish Learning Disability Senior Nurse member.
