Ian Kerr

Ian Kerr qualified as an accountant with Lloyds Bowmaker in Edinburgh where he carried out various finance positions before moving to London to take up a role in strategic planning and financial forecasting for the Group.
In 1989 Ian joined Birmingham Midshires Building Society where he gained wide retail financial services experience, leading to him becoming CEO during the period when the business was involved in demutualisation to become part of Halifax plc.
In 2001 Ian became Group Services Director at HBOS, where he was responsible for directing and implementing the sourcing strategy for the newly created business, including the reshaping of its technology landscape and its HR strategy. Ian then moved back into the Retail financial services business as CEO and also served on the Visa Europe Board.
In 2006 he became CEO for Egg and led the sale of the business from Prudential to Citigroup, where he took the role of CEO for the Citigroup UK business.
Ian was a member of the Whitehall Capability Review teams for the Scottish Executive (2006) and the Department of Work and Pensions (2008/9).
In 2008 he set up his own consultancy business offering advice across the financial sector, including a supermarket buy-out from the original banking partner. He retired from this in 2016.
Ian is Chair of the Finance & General Purposes Committee, a member of Court Governance & Nominations Committee and a Trustee of the GC-NYC Board. He is also a director of a charity, Community Transport.
