Helen is currently the Vice Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences.

Helen qualified as a Radiographer in Diagnostic Imaging in 1989 from The Royal London Hospital. She developed her general radiographic skills at Charing Cross Hospital, London, after which she took an appointment as a Senior Radiographer at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery to specialise in neuroimaging in 1992.

Helen went on to pursue a career as a Research Radiographer at the Institute of Neurology, University College London (UCL), using Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to study long-term neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and stroke, and where she also undertook an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Surrey.

She joined the Wellcome Department of Imaging Neuroscience, UCL, in 1996 and broadened her experience in functional neuroimaging using fMRI, PET and DTI techniques. Here she rose to Superintendent Radiographer and in 2002 successfully achieved a PhD in Medicine (Clinical Studies) from UCL with a thesis entitled Investigating the Neural Correlates of Theory of Mind.

In 2002 she moved to Glasgow to become Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging. In 2012 she joined the Senior Management Group of the School of Health and Life Sciences initially as Head of the Department of Psychology, Social Work, and Allied Health Sciences, and then Head of the Department of Podiatry and Radiography. She achieved recognition as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2017 for her academic leadership and assumed the role of Assistant Vice Principal Health and Wellbeing in 2018.
