Dr Harriet Bowyer is a Lecturer in Applied Psychology and an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. She obtained her MSc in Health Psychology from King’s College London and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from the University of Glasgow. Before joining GCU in 2021, she trained and worked within NHS Scotland for 7 years, primarily in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. She now maintains her clinical practice within the private sector. Dr Bowyer also has a background in public health research, having worked at UCL for a number of years with a specific focus on improving uptake of the bowel cancer screening and the HPV vaccination programmes.

Harriet is deputy module leader for Developmental Psychology. She teaches and supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a specific focus on epidemiology, developmental disorders, child and adolescent mental health and parenting interventions. Her research interests include: improving access to mental and physical health interventions for hard to reach groups; child and adolescent mental health; parenting and attachment; and cognitive, emotional and behavioural responses to health risks. She is a member of the Child and Adolescent Health Research Group (CAHRG).
