Ellen Gibson

Ellen is Head of Careers at GCU and has worked at the University since 2005. She has vast experience in delivering careers guidance to university and college students, school pupils and adults. She is a member of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services and the Career Development Institute. Before qualifying as a careers adviser she worked in human resources and teaching English as a foreign language.
Ellen comes with a strong trade union background. She is a member of GCU Unison Branch and was Branch Chair for five years. She has also been extremely active in Unison at a Scottish and UK level. Offices she has held include Co-Chair of the Unison Scotland Higher Education Service Group Executive (HESGE) and Vice-Chair of the Unison HESGE Conference Standing Orders Committee. She has served on the Standing Orders Committee for the Unison National Women’s Conference and has been GCU branch representative at Unison Scottish Council. Ellen has participated in many national union conferences, where key policies and decisions are made.
Equality and diversity are two of Ellen’s passions. She is currently a GCU Equality Champion and was formerly GCU Unison Branch Equalities Officer. This is a passion she has brought to her role as a Careers Adviser, where she has led on key equality based initiatives for GCU Careers Service.
Ellen brings to the role of Trade Union nominated governor on Court extensive experience of working with staff across GCU and the HE sector, gained from her trade union and careers adviser roles.
