Project title:The application of Serious Games to raise awareness and encourage behavioural change: the case of noPILLS
noPILLS was a pan-European research project that investigated causes and solutions to micropollution within public and private waters. An outcome from noPILLS had shown an interest in the use of serious games as a public intervention method. The research builds upon the initial enquiry of using game development as an experimental method of research.
The research looks to address four main outcomes. Firstly, a method of creating games to address research goals is proposed. Secondly, a serious game is developed following the method of creating games suggested. Thirdly, the game’s effectiveness at raising awareness of noPILLS is evaluated. Finally, an individual’s awareness of the topic over time as a result of playing the serious game is considered.
