Dr Andrew Cowell

Andrew Cowell is the Programme Leader for the BEng(Hons)/BEng Engineering (Design and Manufacture) - Graduate Apprenticeship programme and a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. Andrew teaches in the fields of Engineering Design and Finite Element Analysis, covering all aspects of these topics at both postgraduate and undergraduate level.

Andrew submitted his thesis titled "Investigation of Particle-Surface Impacts in Pneumatic Conveying Systems" in 2015, having studied this part-time since commencing a lecturer role in 2007. Andrew is an active researcher with research published in educational research for work-based learning and digital twins. His research interests include: Industrial Design; Hybrid Renewable Power Systems; Work-based Student Pedagogy.

Andrew has worked in and with industry for over 30 years, as initially a slurry pump design engineer, then consultancy in particulate solids handling, and more recently in industrial design with a focus on sustainability solutions. This experience heavily informs Andrew's current teaching, where he focuses on guiding students to work to industry standards to fulfil live client briefs.
