Research is at the heart of our mission as the University for the Common Good. Our research focuses on three core areas - inclusive societies, healthy lives, and sustainable environments, to address the challenges posed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Clean energy and sustainable engineering
GCU has a long‑established reputation in engineering research, built on expertise in Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. This has provided the foundation for critical mass to develop in sustainable engineering and clean energy, aligned with our commitment to the Common Good.
This work pioneers engineering systems, processes and technologies which support national and global ambitions for net-zero, circular economy transitions, and climate‑resilient futures which enhance long term societal well-being. These commitments are evidenced through research in advanced materials, smart manufacturing, energy‑efficient design and optimisation, robotics and automation, and the development of digital engineering solutions driven by AI and digital twins.
Our clean energy and sustainable engineering application areas are detailed below.
