2020 BSc(Hons)3D Animation and Visualisation
Character Artist at Axis Studios
Why did you choose GCU?
I have always been passionate about films, animation and art, so I would look for a course that would somehow help me combine it all into one. On top of that, Scotland has a reputation for having friendly and welcoming people, so when I found out about the 3D Animation and Visualisation course at GCU, it seemed like a perfect choice.
What was most important to you during your time at GCU?
Studying at GCU gave me an opportunity to learn about the industry I wanted to work in directly from experienced professionals. It gave me the freedom to explore, test my abilities and connect with other people with the same passion.
Where do you work/what do you do now?
Currently, I am a Character Artist at Axis Studios.
What would you say about the course and how it helps you to do your job now?
The course not only helped me acquire skills necessary for my job at a faster pace but, more importantly, it made sure I understood which skills are important and how the industry worked. That knowledge made the transition from a student to a working professional much smoother and less stressful than I expected.
What's your biggest lesson learned? Do you have any advice for our current students?
The sooner you realise that you get out of your University experience only what you put into it, the better your chances of finding a job at the end of your course.
It's up to you to realise that University coursework provides you with a unique space to test your abilities and push yourself, it should not be just a list of things you get done and erase from your mind after you’ve been graded.
Our mission is to be the University for the Common Good, how would you describe GCU?
GCU is not only a place that helps you get ready for your future job, but it also supports you in other aspects of your life if you need it and connects you with lots of amazing people.
Who inspires you?
People who are not afraid to follow their dreams, who achieved their goals through perseverance and grit.
What's next for you and have your ambitions changed since leaving University?
I have always wanted to work as a character artist, so to get that opportunity after graduating is a dream come true. Time spent at GCU gave me the necessary fundamentals, and now it’s up to me to keep building on them, to try and learn as much as I can to keep growing professionally.
