2020 MSc Advanced Paramedic Practice
Why did you choose GCU?
GCU was chosen for its variety of postgraduate courses especially with none available locally in N Ireland.
How would you describe your experience at GCU?
Life-changing. I started GCU as a mature student keen to expand my knowledge and for a University experience that had eluded my teenage years. It has changed my life perspective, challenged my thoughts and beliefs and formulated a worldview. Knowledge is power.
What are your fondest memories of GCU?
Meeting people from all over the UK and Ireland, exposed to people outside normal social/cultural settings. We have become firm friends and reinforced the absolute requirement for collaboration, dialogue, respect and understanding in all walks of life.
How would you describe the quality of the teaching and support you received from GCU?
The most fundamental change I noticed was being treated as a peer, engaging in discussions with direction and encouragement. The environment was conducive to learning and all things educational. When classes moved online, every opportunity was used to reinforce the resources available and always someone available to talk to. GCU also has a good social media footprint especially valuable in these times.
Can you tell us how you coped with the transition to online learning during the pandemic?
I can tell you as a self-confessed technophobe and mature student, I was concerned with the transition to online learning. I focused on the benefits of less travel time and additional time available to study. Online learning resources were maximised and signposting to assistance was frequent.
