Assistant Designer and Creative at Forty Clothing

Hannah Gordon is a spirited force in the Scottish fashion industry whose journey from Glasgow Caledonian University to her current role at Forty Clothing is nothing short of inspiring.

Her time at GCU was marked by transformative experiences, including a semester in Spain and collaborative projects with industry giants like Nike.

It’s these experiences which have shaped her career and made her stand out to employers such as Forty Clothing, where she works as an Assistant Designer and Creative.

“Studying at GCU allowed me to spend a semester in Madrid, which was one of the happiest periods of my life and also where I met some of my best friends from across the world who I still go to visit,” Hannah said.

“I now work at Forty Clothing, which was facilitated by my lecturer Nicola who put me forward for the interview, and I can honestly say it's one of the best opportunities I've been presented with.”

Hannah's passion for fashion has seamlessly blended with her PR and marketing expertise, leading to remarkable achievements like 'UNLOCKED’ – an initiative she helped launch which helps people from underrepresented backgrounds break into the creative industry in Scotland.

The passionate designer says the skills she learned during her International Fashion Branding bachelor’s degree, which she completed in 2023, helped her land the dream role she’s in today.

“During the course, we were able to work with the head buyer for Sevenstore, as well as Stephen Clark from Nike on my final creative project, which was one of the best working experiences I had at uni,” she said.

“The output of these final projects helped Nicola matchmake myself and Forty Clothing which helped me secure the job.”

During her studies Hannah also spent time working at PR and marketing agency, John Doe, where she was offered a myriad of opportunities thanks to her area of university study.

“I was sent on trips to London and Manchester while I was still at university. It also allowed me to work at events like TRNSMT, Connect Festival and Scottish BAFTA during and just after finishing uni, working with some of Scotland's largest clients.

“The link to this role and my course seems less direct, but my company at the time really appreciated my creative background and meant I was placed on clients like St James' Quarter due to my fashion expertise and Glasgow Clyde College due to still being in further education at the time.”

I've met so many amazing people and collaborators during my time at university and it really pushed me to make connections and put myself out there as I felt studying there gave me the credentials to do so.
