Award of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science

Chief Executive Officer of Glasgow Science Centre, Stephen Breslin is committed to generating public interest in the sciences and inspiring the innovative thinkers of the future.

Stephen has worked in the science and engineering industries for more than 20 years. He is a former Chief Executive Officer of think tank and research laboratory Futurelab Education, and a former Chief Executive Officer of The Kelvin Institute Ltd, where he helped Scottish universities commercialise their intellectual property in photonics, software, biotech and renewable energy.

He began his career as an engineering consultant seconded to the Royal Navy HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane, and has helped design flight control systems for British Aerospace. Stephen has also worked around the world as a software engineer for multi-national blue chip companies in the utilities, finance and retail sectors.

Stephen has led Glasgow Science Centre since 2012. The attraction welcomes 350,000 visitors a year and, under Stephen’s leadership, it has secured millions of pounds in investment to stage trailblazing, engaging exhibitions. Stephen has also helped the centre establish a wealth of corporate partnerships, which have helped it grow its engagement programme to reach people across Scotland and the north of England, and invest in new facilities such as a state-of-the-art digital planetarium.

Stephen is recently married to long-term partner Liz, and has two children, Eilidh and Niamh.
