MINT

MINT is a programme of support designed by the GCU Foundation and Alumni Team in collaboration with the GCU Careers Service.  With the job market being one of the most challenging on records, the programme aims to give our 2020 and 2021 graduates the best possible chance of securing employment at the earliest possible opportunity.

The scheme is being backed by our Founding Donor, Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, as well as other notable honorary graduates and alumni of the University.  Actor Martin Compston; Ann Gow, Deputy Chief Executive of Health Improvement Scotland, Mark Hogarth of Harris Tweed Hebrides; and Douglas Dawson of Liberty Industries are just some of the leaders in their field to have already signed up to participate.

2020 and 2021 graduates can apply for any or all aspects of the Programme with further details on each element provided below.  Alternatively, you can contact a member of the team to find out more.

Mentoring

Under the mentoring arm of the scheme, 2020 and 2021 graduates will be paired with an experienced alumni mentor who, over a six month period, will offer support such as tips on making your CV stand out, act as a sounding board, and offer advice on building confidence and industry connections.  More than 500 GCU alumni have so far volunteered to be a mentor.

Internships

Established by £200k of support from Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, Founding Donor to the GCU Foundation, we will be partnering with businesses to provide a number of match funded internships for our 2020 and 2021 graduates.

An average of three months in term, the internships will enable graduates to gain valuable paid work experience whilst developing new skills that will enhance their CV and chances of securing full time employment.  The opportunities will be matched funded by the organisation and the Graduate Internship Fund.

We are in the process of liaising with businesses to secure internship opportunities. Register with CareerHub and set up email alerts to be notified of internship vacancies and other work opportunities in your chosen field.

Networking and Talks

Graduates and final year students can link up with alumni around the world through our series of networking and talks. There are a number of tailored opportunities including our online international alumni receptions, GCU London’s online tea and catch up sessions and our New York campus, GCNYC, hosts regular workshops facilitating opportunities to share ideas and insights.

Captains of Industry talk series

Captains of Industry is our main online talk series where leaders in their field share their career journeys and provide insights into the impact of COVID-19 on their sector. Held fortnightly throughout the academic year, they offer graduates and students the chance to hear from industry experts first-hand and get tips and advice as they embark on their own career journeys.  View our upcoming talks here.
