Peter McGettrick is Divisional Managing Director of global professional services firm Turner & Townsend and Chair of the international charity British Safety Council

At the heart of Peter McGettrick’s work is a commitment to creating opportunity, and he’s spent his career driving progress in industry and now turns to nurture the next generation.

A proud alumnus of Glasgow Caledonian University, Peter holds not one, but two degrees from the University: an undergraduate degree in Environmental Management and an MBA from GCU’s Business School.

For him, GCU wasn’t just a place to study, it was the launchpad for everything that followed:

“I wanted more than a degree from my university – I wanted to gain skills, I wanted to become confident, and I wanted a big network. I got all three of those from my undergraduate degree and that motivated me to undertake an MBA from the Business School, and it didn't disappoint.

“My undergraduate degree gave me a strong platform of technical excellence in a discipline which I was able to take into industry and use that to support clients and to grow a business.

“That interest in business was something that stuck with me, and I was able to enhance my business leadership skills by taking an MBA, and that really was a fantastic learning experience that I was able to put into practice on a day-to-day basis and really help my career progress from there.”

Now, through his leadership at Turner & Townsend, Peter is helping open those same doors for others:

“Turner & Townsend has a range of different partnerships with organisations designed to improve social inclusion and create opportunities for people. I’m proud to say that Glasgow Caledonian University is one of our partnerships, and we’ve committed to supporting 10 scholarships through this programme.”

“We employ a number of graduates from Glasgow Caledonian University every year as part of our graduate intake and early careers programme. This is a further extension of that relationship, and we're really pleased to support it.”

For Peter, supporting the 150th Anniversary Campaign isn’t just about giving; it’s about believing in potential.

“I believe in creating opportunities that transform lives, and this campaign does exactly that.”

Through his partnership with GCU, he’s ensuring that belief becomes reality for more students and, in turn, for the industries and communities they’ll go on to shape.

The 150th Anniversary Campaign is about investing in our future leaders who will end up transforming industry and society. I believe in creating opportunities that transform lives, and this campaign does exactly that
