Academic requirements

UK honours degree 2:1 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

Additional requirements

Three to five years of work experience in a management position.

English language requirements

Academic IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) with no element below 6.0.

Flexible Entry - Credit Transfer and RPL

An applicant can seek entry to the course if they do not have the normal entry requirements but can demonstrate that they have achieved the prerequisite skills and knowledge through their experience, or informal learning (Recognition of Prior Learning).

Applicants may be granted entry with advanced standing if they can demonstrate equivalence to the learning outcomes of a module. A student can gain credit towards an award through a combination of prior informal and prior certificated learning.

Exemptions may be granted for stage 1 modules as follows:

Research Methods, if the applicant possesses a Masters in Research or Philosophy or equivalent
Other stage 1 modules if the applicant possesses a Master of Business Administration or equivalent.

Relevant experience (Recognition of Prior Learning)

GCU's flexible entry policies exist to allow relevant work experience and prior learning to be considered towards standard entry or advanced entry into a course.

If you do not have the typical academic entry qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant work experience and/or credits from recognised professional bodies, you may be eligible to enter this course via the University's Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) scheme.

Minimum entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements are for widening access students only. If you are from a group that is not currently well-represented in higher education you may qualify as a widening access student. This includes living in a target postcode area, attending a target school or college, attending SWAP, are care-experienced or provide care for someone else, have refugee status or are an asylum seeker.

Part time, 100% online distance learning

This course is delivered part time, and fully online, enabling you to study from anywhere in the world.

You'll study:

Stage 1: Study taught modules (years one and two)
Stage 2: Independent, applied research aligned to your professional practice (years three and four) - supported by a supervisory team.

You can extend to up to a maximum of six years if required, with a continuation fee in year five and six.

As an online learner, you'll earn a postgraduate degree that is recognised worldwide and has the same value as a degree studied on campus. You'll also have full access to our staff and student services.

Assessment methods

Assessment is structured across two stages:

Stage 1: Continuous assessment across taught modules.
Stage 2: Submission of a doctoral thesis (maximum 60,000 words), followed by a Viva Voce oral examination.
