The Selection Process

Shortlisting Stage

Once the job advert closing date has passed the shortlist panel will review all applications submitted and will agree on which candidates they would like to invite for interview.

In most cases this process should take no longer than 4 weeks but are unable to supply a definite timescale, as some recruiting managers may take longer than others to shortlist a vacancy.

When the shortlisting has been completed we will contact all candidates to confirm the outcome of your application. This will be sent via email, to the address you provided on your myjobscotland account.  Additionally, your myjobscotland account area will also show you your application status.

Interview Stage

Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend the next stage of the selection process, and will normally be given at least 1 week notice in order to prepare for this.

This stage will involve an interview and also may include other selection methods as appropriate, such as in-tray exercises or a presentation; full details will be included in the interview invitation.

Please note references are not taken up at this stage and will only be sought for the preferred candidate after the interview has taken place.  However, all applicants will be asked to provide details of their referees at application stage.

If you are invited to attend an interview, you will be asked to confirm your attendance as soon as possible. You will either be allocated an interview date/time or asked to select your preferred date/time from an allocated slot via your myjobscotland account.  If you find you are unable to attend on the date or set time, please contact us at the earliest opportunity.

Offer of employment stage (for successful candidates)

After the interviews have taken place and the panel have made their decision, the outcome will then be communicated via email in no longer than 5 working days.

All offers of employment are subject to satisfying a number of pre-employment conditions (see Recruitment FAQs for further details).

Please note that the appointments will be made on the first point of the salary scale (unless by exception).
