Aim
• Broadly these are to build on the learning of the Shetland Anchor Early Action Model, which prioritised early interventions to prevent crisis. Person-Centred Shetland aims to address the system changes that did not get fully implemented through that project. This is likely to include:
• Improving how services across Shetland work together, strengthening coordination, collaboration and shared purpose.
• Shifting the system from process driven service delivery to relational, person centred and strengths based support focused on what matters to people.
• Improving prevention and early intervention by helping practitioners identify needs earlier and respond in more flexible and joined up ways.
• Building system capacity through a practitioner learning network and cross agency leadership development.
• Developing sustainable whole family support approaches that address complex and interconnected challenges more effectively.
Summary
‘Person-Centred Shetland’ is a whole-system improvement programme aligned to the Shetland Partnership’s vision that “everyone is able to thrive, living well in strong, resilient communities.” It is being developed through a local Fairer Futures Partnership and aims to support families facing complex challenges by providing holistic and coordinated services, shifting away from disjointed organisational processes that can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. Person-Centred Shetland prioritises what families need from support services, striving to understand their challenges and develop collaborative approaches to best address their needs. Through a Person-Centred Shetland, families should be able to access the services they need regardless of how and where support is first accessed.
What difference does it make?
As the project is in the early stages with funding being granted in 2025, there has not been enough time to fully implement (and therefore to appraise impact).
