Aim
The primary aim of the project is:
To capture ECF’s projects and case studies in an efficient and concise way for staff, partners, external stakeholders and service users.
To pre-empt anyone interested in an ECF project with a clear snapshot summary of ECF’s work.
Summary
Edinburgh Community Food’s (ECF) One Pagers are concise one-page summaries that disseminate information on ECF’s projects and impact. The One Pagers provide a clear snapshot of ECF’s various projects and case studies, ensuring this information is accessible, readable and succinct. These snapshots enable ECF to pre-empt anyone interested in their work, including external stakeholders and partners, with a quick summary of ECF’s initiatives. The One Pagers ensure ECF can steer the narrative surrounding their work, providing a standardised, streamlined process for external information-sharing and ensuring staff can track, review and celebrate their progress.
What difference does it make?
The Scottish Government has shared ECF’s One Pagers template with various departments and requested that other community groups use the same standardised format, demonstrating the strength of providing clear snapshots.
The project eliminates ambiguity, ensuring that when ECF send One Pagers to government ministers ECF staff can steer the meetings. This enables ministers to see how government and taxpayer money is being spent in advance of meetings with ECF, providing required background to projects and case studies to further the development of ECF’s work.
The One Pagers enable ECF to streamline their existing work to tackle food poverty in Edinburgh. The project provides an avenue for ECF to demonstrate their impact, progress and projects to external stakeholders such as funders, partners and boards, thus furthering their effort to tackle food poverty in the area. The project also encourages staff to use their time effectively and enables them to translate words into action.
Key take-aways
- Communicating and writing in a clear, effective and concise way does not have to be difficult.
- Utilising the mindset that Brenda has implemented into ECF’s everyday work has enabled staff to stay focused and eliminated superfluous information when engaging with external stakeholders.
- Providing external stakeholders with a snapshot of information on a project and its impact is an effective way of gaining and maintaining interest.
