This specialised upskilling opportunity is tailored exclusively for optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians who are registered with the GOC and have prior or current practicing experience. The module, which carries 20 credits at SCQF 11,  aims to enhance individuals' knowledge and confidence in myopia management.

The modules main objective is to equip students with specialised knowledge and skills necessary to effectively treat patients with myopia. Within the module, students will gain the ability to critically evaluate current myopia research and understand its relevance to clinical practice. This includes exploring risk factors associated with myopia and various treatment methods. Additionally, students will be introduced to techniques used to monitor and treat myopia, such as axial length measurement and corneal topography. This expert knowledge will set you apart from your peers and demonstrate your commitment to staying at the forefront of the optometry field.

The learning materials for this module consist of lectures, interactive tutorials utilising real patient scenarios, and supplementary online resources to support and enhance learning.

GOC registered practitioners will have the opportunity to earn CPD points through participation in this module which adds further value to your professional development. This module entails approximately 200 hours of notional effort, worth 20 credits at postgraduate level and can be undertaken as part of the MSc Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Research course or as a standalone CPD module. Continuous learning and staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in myopia management will position you as a credible and reliable expert in the field.

The module is taught exclusively through online platforms and primarily focuses on self-directed learning.
