Tammy Gillies

Department of Nursing, Community and Public HealthTammy is a lecturer, having commenced her post October 2025. This role will be contributing to the education and learning of pre-registration nurse students with progression and enthusiasm to new learning and education opportunities.
Tammy graduated with her BSc in Nursing (Adult), September 2003. Her experience as a qualified nurse initially started within Secondary care of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Coronary Care and Cardiology unit, moving to a mixed medical and surgical High Dependency Unit. Tammy returned to Coronary Care where this cemented her knowledge base and use of her expertise into to the post of Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse specialist in February, 2015.
In January 2020, Tammy took the opportunity in her career path to work within Primary care as a General Practice Nurse, where she was able to access her diploma at Napier University in “Diabetes across the lifespan”. Tammy continued to build on her care of managing across the lifespan adding to her experience assessing and managing paediatrics from 1 years old through to older adults. This was a completely new challenge which built on her confidence and knowledge base using local and national policies and guidelines and attending the latest training supported by her practice.
Tammy enjoyed learning about Long-term condition management of asthma, COPD, Diabetes, skin conditions, Mental health, cardiovascular disease, Male and Female sexual health and cervical smear clinics. Minor illness, total telephone triage and use of multiple IT systems were skills added to Tammy’s experience. This was further complemented in her completion of her Honours level in General Practice Nursing, through NES Scotland.
Tammy’s interest and passion of Primary Care and community allowed her to become an Advance Nurse Practitioner within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, completing her MSc in Nursing in Professional Practice at Glasgow Caledonian University in September, 2024.
Tammy hopes to complete her Master’s and obtain any continued professional development as she commences her career, as a lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Tammy is enthusiastic to be able to provide her knowledge, experience and “positive manner” where possible and build a respectful and caring rapport to those students who will be a part of the Glasgow Caledonian alumni. Tammy’s ultimate aim is to support and encourage our future nurses to be confident, passionate and caring nurses whilst having high standards of nursing care following the Nursing and Midwifery Council code of conduct.
